OneMoreStep

An endless climb, built for phones

One More Step is a mobile-first 2D vertical platformer. You guide a small pet up an endless climb around a giant tree, where speed turns into higher jumps and falling off the bottom ends the run.

It is an independent creative engineering project, and a place to test how mechanics, feedback and progression work together when real people play them.

A / Capabilities

Systems in the game

  • Momentum movement

Running builds speed, and chained fast jumps climb higher, with wall bounces, coyote time and an earned double jump.

  • Progression and skills

Two pets share the same physics but have their own signature skills and ultimates, charged by combos and spent with mana.

  • Content-driven worlds

Worlds, pets and hand-built climbs are data. Floors up to 999 come from a purpose-built World Generator, and everything beyond is generated live.

  • Touch-first input

Touch handling was hardened through phone playtests, including recovering from finger releases that mobile Safari sometimes drops.

B / Engineering notes

How it is built

  • Tested as it grows

Unit tests and scripted browser checks run alongside rounds of playtesting on real phones.

  • Documented decisions

Game design, tuning values and a development decision log are kept as maintained documents.
