About Dynamics 365 Error Codes

Dynamics 365 Error Codes explains the errors developers and administrators run into most often. Search by hex code, decimal code, name or keyword, and each error has its own page with common causes and steps to fix it.

The codes and names come from Microsoft's Dataverse error reference, and this list covers common errors rather than all of them. The causes and fixes are practical guidance from working with the platform. This is an independent tool, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Microsoft.

  1. 01Copy the error code from the message, log or trace.
  2. 02Paste it into the search box, in hex or decimal.

Frequently asked questions

What does error 0x80040220 mean?
It is PrivilegeDenied, which means that the user is missing a privilege needed for the operation. The message names the exact privilege and table, so add that privilege to one of the user's security roles.
What does error 0x80040217 mean?
It is ObjectDoesNotExist, which means that the record being requested was not found. The most common reasons are a GUID from another environment, or a record that has been deleted.
Why does my error show as a negative number?
SDK traces often show the same code as a signed decimal. For example, -2147220969 is 0x80040217. You can search with either form here.
What if my error code is not listed?
This list covers common errors. Microsoft's web service error reference lists all of them, and is linked from this page.
